On this day, June 8 according to the Julian Calendar (June 21 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Venerable Zosimas the Phoenician, who lived in the 6th century.
The Venerable Zosimas was born in the Syrian village of Sinada, near Tyre. He was tonsured a monk at a very young age. Zosimas glorified the Lord through fasting, prayer, physical labor, and other virtuous works.
The holy one devoted himself completely to ascetic struggle. He was known for his extreme humility, his ceaseless prayer, and his love for all who came to him seeking spiritual guidance. Many people traveled to him from distant places to receive his blessing and counsel.
Zosimas performed many miracles during his lifetime. He had the gift of healing the sick and comforting those in sorrow. His life was a living testimony to the power of monastic struggle and total dedication to God.
He reposed peacefully in the sixth century, having attained a high degree of spiritual perfection through decades of ascetic labor in Phoenicia, the land of his birth.
May the intercessions of the Venerable Zosimas the Phoenician be with us all.
