On this day, July 9 according to the Julian Calendar (July 22 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Venerable Patermuthius and Copres.
Venerable Patermuthius and Copres were desert fathers of Egypt. Patermuthius had originally been a pagan and a robber who did not hesitate even to plunder graves. Yet the grace of God reached his sinful soul.
He received holy baptism and repented completely, withdrawing to the desert to live as an ascetic. The venerable father devoted himself to serving the sick and performing works of mercy.
Copres became his disciple and followed him in the desert life of prayer and fasting. Together they bore witness to the Christian faith through their ascetic lives and their care for those in need.
Both are venerated by the Church as models of repentance and holy monastic life.
