On this day, July 5 according to the Julian Calendar (July 18 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Venerable Lampados of Irinopolis, who reposed no later than the tenth century.
The Venerable Lampados embraced the monastic life from his youth. He withdrew to a cave in the desert near the city of Irinopolis in Asia Minor, where he spent his long life in prayer, fasting, and asceticism. He labored in this solitary way until deep old age.
The Lord glorified His servant Lampados with miracles during his life and after his blessed repose. He is venerated as a holy desert-dweller whose life was a silent but powerful witness to the power of unceasing prayer and love for God.
May the intercessions of the Venerable Lampados be with us all.
