On this day, June 20 according to the Julian Calendar (July 3 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Leucius the Confessor, Bishop of Brindisi.
Saint Leucius was born to pious Alexandrians named Eudocius and Euphrosinia. At his birth his parents named him Eutropius. He was eleven years old when his mother died. His father then entered the Monastery of Saint Hermes and brought his son with him. The boy was baptized with the name Leucius and raised in the monastic life. He grew in virtue and was ordained first deacon, then priest. Because of his great holiness he was elected Bishop of the city of Brindisi (Brundisium) in southern Italy. He shepherded his flock with wisdom and godly zeal, performing many miracles. At the end of his life he fell gravely ill and reposed peacefully in the Lord, leaving behind many miracles and a legacy of holiness.
May the intercessions of Saint Leucius the Confessor, Bishop of Brindisi, be with us all.
