✝ Venerable Martyr Michael, Abbot of Zobe, and the 36 Venerable Martyrs with Him (†780–790)
October 1 / October 14 (Julian Calendar)
On this day, October 1 according to the Julian Calendar (October 14 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Venerable Martyr Michael, Abbot of Zobe, and the thirty-six Venerable Martyrs with him.
The holy Abbot Michael and the thirty-six venerable martyrs with him laboured in asceticism at the Monastery of Zobe, near Sebaste in Armenia, in the north-eastern part of Asia Minor. At the end of the eighth century the Saracens attacked the monastery, and the saints, having commended themselves to Christ, were put to the sword.
May the intercessions of the Venerable Martyr Michael of Zobe and the thirty-six Venerable Martyrs with him be with us all.
