On this day, June 17 according to the Julian Calendar (June 30 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Venerable Fathers Joseph the Desert-Dweller and Piorus.
The Venerable Fathers Joseph the Desert-Dweller and Piorus were Egyptian ascetics of the fourth century. They lived lives of extreme self-denial, prayer, and fasting in the desert of Egypt, following the tradition of the great fathers of the Thebaid.
Their holiness attracted disciples and spiritual seekers. The Church honors their memory together as examples of the monastic life of complete renunciation and union with God.
May the intercessions of Venerable Fathers Joseph the Desert-Dweller and Piorus be with us all.
