On this day, June 17 according to the Julian Calendar (June 30 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Hieromartyr Philonides, Bishop of Curium in Cyprus.
The Hieromartyr Philonides was Bishop of Curium on the island of Cyprus. He suffered martyrdom for his confession of Christ around the year 306 AD, during the persecutions under Emperor Diocletian.
Philonides was arrested for refusing to offer sacrifice to the pagan gods and for boldly preaching the Christian faith. He endured torture with great courage and was put to death. The Church honors him as a martyr and a bishop who gave his life for the flock entrusted to him.
May the intercessions of Hieromartyr Philonides, Bishop of Curium in Cyprus be with us all.
