Venerable Copres (†c. 530) — September 24 / October 7 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, September 24 according to the Julian Calendar (October 7 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Venerable Copres.

Venerable Copres was found by the monks of the Monastery of Saint Theodosius the Great on a heap of refuse (in Greek, “kopria”) in Palestine, where his mother had left him as a newborn while fleeing the invading Persians. The fathers brought the infant to the monastery, named him Copres, and raised him in the fear of God. Later the blessed one was tonsured a monk and spent his whole life in his native monastery. The chosen of the Lord reached the summit of the virtues and received the gift of working miracles; he reposed at the age of ninety (†c. 530).
