On this day, September 4 according to the Julian Calendar (September 17 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Joasaph of Belgorod.

Saint Joasaph of Belgorod (in the world, Joachim) was a descendant of the noble Gorlenko family. He was born in Priluki, in the former Poltava province, on September 8, 1705, on the feast of the Nativity of the Theotokos. The saint had firmly resolved upon his path and was soon tonsured a monk. In 1728 the saint was ordained a hierodeacon, in 1734 a hieromonk, and on June 2, 1748, he was consecrated Bishop of Belgorod. On December 10, 1754, Joasaph of Belgorod, radiant with holiness, peacefully committed his soul to the Lord. His canonization took place on September 4, 1911.
