✝ Venerable Macarius, Abbot of Pelecete

On this day, August 18 according to the Julian Calendar (August 31 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Venerable Macarius, Abbot of Pelecete.
Venerable Macarius was the abbot of the monastery of Pelecete. During the raging of the iconoclast heresy he endured persecution and imprisonment for his fidelity to the Orthodox faith.
He reposed about the year 830. The Holy Church celebrates his memory also on the first day of April.
