The Venerable Fathers of the Holy Mountain John (father of Euthymios the Great) and Gabriel were among the founders of the Georgian monastic tradition on Mount Athos in the tenth century.

Venerable John was the father of Saint Euthymios the Great of Athos (Ekvtime the Athonite), one of the most celebrated Georgian saints, who translated the entire Holy Scripture and many patristic texts from Greek into Georgian. The Georgian monastic presence on Mount Athos during this era — centered at the Iviron Monastery founded in 980 — became a great center of theological learning and the preservation of Georgian Christian heritage. The labors of these holy fathers were foundational to that sacred work.
