Holy Martyrs Proclus and Hilarion — July 12 / July 25 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, July 12 according to the Julian Calendar (July 25 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Holy Martyrs Proclus and Hilarion.

The Holy Martyrs Proclus and Hilarion were from a village called Calyptis near the city of Ancyra (modern Ankara) in Asia Minor. They suffered martyrdom during the persecution of Emperor Trajan (98-117).

Both holy men confessed their faith in Christ boldly before the persecutors and refused to offer sacrifice to the pagan gods. For their steadfast witness they were subjected to severe torments.

After enduring their sufferings with patient courage, the holy martyrs Proclus and Hilarion were put to death for the name of Christ. The Church venerates them as faithful witnesses to the Gospel in the early centuries of Christianity.
