On this day, June 23 according to the Julian Calendar (July 6 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyrs Eustochius, Gaius, Probus, Lollius, Urban, and Others (V c.).
The Holy Martyrs Eustochius, Gaius, Probus, Lollius, and Urban suffered during the reign of the ungodly Emperor Maximian (286-310), when Christians were being fiercely persecuted.
Holy Eustochius was a pagan priest, but beholding the astonishing courage of Christ’s martyrs and the miracles wrought by them, he came to believe in Christ. He went to the governor and publicly confessed his faith. The governor, enraged, subjected him to cruel tortures, but the holy martyr endured everything with great patience and peace of soul.
While Eustochius was being tortured, Gaius, Probus, Lollius, Urban, and others came before the governor and likewise confessed their faith in Christ. They were all subjected to various torments. By God’s grace they endured all the sufferings with joy and gave up their souls to the Lord.
May the intercessions of the Holy Martyrs Eustochius, Gaius, Probus, Lollius, Urban, and their companions be with us all.
