Venerable Procopius of Sázava (†1053) — September 16 / September 29 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, September 16 according to the Julian Calendar (September 29 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Venerable Procopius of Sázava.

Venerable Procopius was born in Bohemia, in the village of Chotouň. Serving in holy orders, the saint labored greatly to spread Christianity in the Czech lands. On the river Sázava the blessed one founded a monastery dedicated to the holy Prophet John the Forerunner, where he reposed in the year 1053.
