✝ Venerable Peter of Galatia
October 9 / October 22 (Julian Calendar)
On this day, October 9 according to the Julian Calendar (October 22 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Venerable Peter of Galatia.
Venerable Peter of Galatia first served in the army of the emperor Theophilus, but he later withdrew from the world and was tonsured a monk in the monastery of Daphnon near Antioch in Syria. The stalwart ascetic completed his long, God-pleasing labours in Constantinople, in the monastery of Saint Phocas. He reposed in peace in the ninth century, during the reign of the emperor Basil the Macedonian (867–886).
May the intercessions of Venerable Peter of Galatia be with us all.
