On this day, September 10 according to the Julian Calendar (September 23 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Saints Peter and Paul, Bishops of Nicaea.
Our holy fathers Peter and Paul were bishops of Nicaea. Saint Peter endured many sufferings at the hands of the iconoclasts in defence of the Orthodox faith during the reign of Emperor Leo the Armenian (813–820). He reposed no earlier than 823. Four epistles written to Bishop Peter by Saint Theodore the Studite between 816 and 823 are known. No information about Saint Paul has been preserved. The Holy Church commemorates together these namesakes of the chief Apostles and faithful continuers of their work, the holy hierarchs of Nicaea, Peter and Paul.
