On this day, August 8 according to the Julian Calendar (August 21 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Myron the Wonderworker, Bishop of Crete.

Saint Myron the Wonderworker, Bishop of Crete, was born in the city of Rhaukos on the island of Crete. In his youth he was married and devoted himself to the tilling of the soil; the harvest gathered by his diligent labor he distributed generously to the poor, while he himself, together with his household, was content with only what was necessary.

Once Saint Myron came upon thieves on his own threshing floor, but he was not angered at them — calmly he helped them to lift the sacks onto their shoulders. By such magnanimity the blessed one brought the robbers to so deep a repentance that they began to live honorable lives.

The Lord chose His well-pleasing servant to be a shepherd of rational sheep: first he was ordained a priest, and afterward he was consecrated a bishop as well. For his unceasing labors the holy hierarch was granted the gift of working miracles. By the sign of the Cross he halted the flooding of the river Triton.

Hierarch Myron committed his soul to the Lord at the age of one hundred years, about the year 350.
