✝ Right-Believing Prince Wenceslaus (Vyacheslav) of Bohemia
September 28 / October 11 (Julian Calendar)
On this day, September 28 according to the Julian Calendar (October 11 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Right-Believing Prince Wenceslaus (Vyacheslav) of Bohemia.
The right-believing Prince Wenceslaus (Vyacheslav) of Bohemia, grandson of Saint Ludmila (commemorated on September 16), was raised by the hands of his blessed grandmother. The saint was eighteen years old when the governance of the country fell to him. Despite his youth, he carried out his heavy duties wisely and justly and labored zealously for the Christian education of his people. The blessed Wenceslaus was distinguished by deep learning and knew both Latin and Greek. He built and adorned churches and treated the clergy with reverence.
Treacherous nobles, or, according to another account, the German-Catholic party, incited his brother Boleslav against the holy prince. Boleslav invited Wenceslaus to the consecration of a church, and the next day, as the saint was on his way to Matins, he had him treacherously murdered on the threshold of the church. The incorrupt relics of the saint rest in Prague, in the Cathedral of Saint Vitus, which he himself had built (†935).
May the intercessions of Right-Believing Prince Wenceslaus (Vyacheslav) of Bohemia be with us all.
