Repose of Saint John Chrysostom (†407) — September 14 / September 27 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, September 14 according to the Julian Calendar (September 27 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Repose of Saint John Chrysostom.

Saint John Chrysostom, Patriarch of Constantinople and one of the great Fathers of the Church, reposed on September 14 in the year 407. Because this day coincides with the great Feast of the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-giving Cross, however, his commemoration has been transferred to November 13.

On January 27 the Holy Church celebrates the translation of the holy relics of the blessed hierarch from Comana to Constantinople, and on January 30 he is commemorated together with Saint Basil the Great and Saint Gregory the Theologian.
