Holy Martyrs Thathuil and His Sister Thibea (†98–138) — September 5 / September 18 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, September 5 according to the Julian Calendar (September 18 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyrs Thathuil and his sister Thibea (also called Bebea). They were martyred for their bold and fruitful preaching of the Christian faith among the pagans, according to one account in the reign of Trajan (98–117), and according to other sources in the reign of Hadrian (117–138). After prolonged and cruel tortures, Saint Thathuil was hung upon a tree and sawn asunder, while his sister Thibea was killed by a spear thrust to the throat.

On October 15 the Church also commemorates the saints Sarbelus and Bebea. It is thought that Bebea is the same person as Thibea, the sister of Thathuil; some identify Sarbelus with Thathuil himself, while others hold that the name of Thathuil should be included separately alongside Sarbelus and Bebea among the saints of October 15.
