✝ Holy Martyrs Straton, Philip, Eutychian and Cyprian
August 17 / August 30 (Julian Calendar)
On this day, August 17 according to the Julian Calendar (August 30 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyrs Straton, Philip, Eutychian and Cyprian. They suffered at Nicomedia. They used to go about the public spectacles and call upon the pagans to abandon the worship of idols, and these grace-filled preachers converted many to Christianity.
The governor noticed that the audiences at the public spectacles were growing ever smaller, and he summoned the martyrs before him. They firmly confessed the true faith, and for this they were thrown to the beasts to be torn apart. The animals would not approach the chosen ones of the Lord. Then they were cruelly tortured, and afterwards burned in the fire (+about 303).
May the intercessions of the Holy Martyrs Straton, Philip, Eutychian and Cyprian be with us all.
