Holy Martyrs Markianos, Nikandros, Hyperechios, Apollonios, Leonidas, Arios, Georgios, Selinas, Irenaios, and Paumon — June 5 / June 18 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, June 5 according to the Julian Calendar (June 18 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyrs Markianos, Nikandros, Hyperechios, Apollonios, Leonidas, Arios, Georgios, Selinas, Irenaios, and Paumon (4th century).

The holy martyrs Markianos, Nikandros, Hyperechios, Apollonios, Leonidas, Arios, Georgios, Selinas, Irenaios, and Paumon were Egyptians. During the reign of Emperor Maximianus (305–311), they were cruelly tortured for their bold confession of Christ. The half-dead martyrs were cast into prison. There an angel of the Lord appeared to them and healed their wounds. This miracle brought many pagans to convert to the faith of Christ. Weakened by hunger and thirst, the holy martyrs reposed in prison.

May the intercessions of the Holy Martyrs Markianos, Nikandros, and their companions be with us all.
