On this day, September 5 according to the Julian Calendar (September 18 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyrs Juventinus and Maximus the Soldiers. They were personal bodyguards of the Emperor Julian the Apostate (361–363). Once, while in Antioch, Julian decided to have all the food in the markets sprinkled with the blood of idol sacrifices in order to defile the Christians. Saints Juventinus and Maximus openly condemned the emperor’s action and rebuked him for his denial of the Christian faith. By order of the impious ruler both of them were mercilessly beaten and then strangled in prison.

The Church also commemorates them on October 9.
