Holy Martyrs Frontasius, Severinus, Severian, and Silanus of Gaul — June 4 / June 17 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, June 4 according to the Julian Calendar (June 17 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyrs Frontasius, Severinus, Severian, and Silanus of Gaul (1st century).

The holy martyrs Frontasius, Severinus, Severian, and Silanus suffered for Christ during the reign of Emperor Claudius (41–54). They were sent by Fronto, the Bishop of Périgueux, to preach the word of God in southern Gaul (present-day France). The pagan ruler of that region, Skviridon, arrested the saints and demanded that they renounce Christ. The enraged Skviridon ordered the confessors to be led outside the city, nailed to posts, and to have nails driven into their heads in the manner of a crown of thorns, after which their heads were cut off.

May the intercessions of the Holy Martyrs Frontasius, Severinus, Severian, and Silanus be with us all.
