Holy Martyr Lupus of Thessalonica — August 23 / September 5 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, August 23 according to the Julian Calendar (September 5 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyr Lupus. The Holy Martyr Lupus lived at the turn of the third and fourth centuries and was the faithful servant of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica (commemorated October 26). He was present at the martyric end of his master.

With the ring of the Great Martyr Demetrius, his blood-stained garment, and the name of the saint, Saint Lupus worked many miracles in Thessalonica. The blessed one willingly surrendered himself to the impious, and by order of the Emperor Maximian Galerius (305–311) he was beheaded (after the year 306).
