Holy Martyr Ia of Persia (†362–364) — September 11 / September 24 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, September 11 according to the Julian Calendar (September 24 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Holy Martyr Ia of Persia.

The holy martyr Ia is identified with the Venerable Martyr Eudocia (commemorated August 4), who was among the Christians carried off into captivity by Shapur II from the Persian city of Bizada. For preaching the true faith, the pagans seized her. The chief priest persistently demanded that the blessed one renounce the true God, but in vain. Then Saint Ia was tortured and cast into prison, and after repeated tortures she was beheaded (see the reading for August 4).
