✝ Holy Great-Martyr Chrysa (Zlata) of Meglen (†1795)
October 13 / October 26 (Julian Calendar)
On this day, October 13 according to the Julian Calendar (October 26 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Great-Martyr Chrysa (Zlata) of Meglen.
The holy great-martyr Chrysa (Zlata) of Meglen was born and lived in Bulgaria. At that time her homeland was suffering under the Turkish yoke. From her youth Zlata was distinguished by a wondrously firm character, unshakeable hope in Christ, prudence and beauty. A Turk who had settled in her village tried for a long time to seduce the maiden and convert her to Islam, but neither by persuasion, nor by threats, nor by terrible tortures that went on for many months could he bend the courageous confessor.
In 1795 the lamb of Christ commended her soul to the Lord.
May the intercessions of the Holy Great-Martyr Zlata of Meglen be with us all.
