Finding of the Relics of St. Acacius the Confessor, Bishop of Melitene — September 15 / September 28 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, September 15 according to the Julian Calendar (September 28 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the finding of the relics of St. Acacius the Confessor, Bishop of Melitene.

The finding of the relics of St. Acacius the Confessor, Bishop of Melitene, took place in the reign of the Emperor Decius (249–251). For his confession of Christ, St. Acacius was cruelly tortured and cast into prison, from which he was later released. He converted many of the godless to the true faith, becoming renowned for his inspired preaching and miracles, after which he peacefully surrendered his soul to the Lord.
