Holy Martyr Polychronius the Presbyter (4th c.) — October 7 / October 20 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, October 7 according to the Julian Calendar (October 20 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Holy Martyr Polychronius the Presbyter.

The holy martyr Polychronius the Presbyter was raised in the Christian faith from childhood; he was the son of a poor farmer. When he came of age, the saint left his parental home, went to Constantinople, and began to work in the vineyards of a wealthy landowner. His master marveled at his diligence and paid him generously, and with the wages he earned the blessed one built a church.

It is recorded that Polychronius, as a reader, took part in the sessions of the First Ecumenical Council (Nicaea, 325). Soon afterwards he was ordained a presbyter. This chosen one of the Lord was killed by Arian heretics at the altar of the church during the divine service (4th century).
