Venerable Peter of Atroa (9th Century) — September 13 / September 26 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, September 13 according to the Julian Calendar (September 26 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Venerable Peter of Atroa (9th Century).

Venerable Peter of Atroa struggled in asceticism in the town of Atroa, near Mount Olympus in Asia. The blessed one always wore iron chains. During his lifetime Venerable Peter worked many miracles. At last, in the time of Patriarch Tarasius of Constantinople (784–806) and Emperor Nicephorus (802–811), the saint peacefully commended his soul to the Lord.
