Holy Martyr Romulus and Many Others with Him (†107–115) — September 6 / September 19 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, September 6 according to the Julian Calendar (September 19 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyr Romulus and the many others who suffered with him. Saint Romulus was a military commander under the Emperor Trajan (98–117). When Trajan went to the eastern part of the empire to put down the unrest of the peoples living there, he reviewed his army and discovered eleven Christians among the soldiers. He immediately exiled them to Armenia. Saint Romulus rebuked the emperor for his impiety and folly, and at the same time confessed that he too was a Christian. By order of the enraged Trajan the saint was cruelly tortured and then beheaded.

The Christian soldiers who had been exiled to Armenia were also put to death by various torments.
