✝ Translation of the Relics of the Holy Right-Believing Prince Alexander Nevsky
August 30 / September 12 (Julian Calendar)
On this day, August 30 according to the Julian Calendar (September 12 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Translation of the Relics of the Holy Right-Believing Prince Alexander Nevsky.
The holy right-believing Prince Alexander Nevsky reposed on November 14, 1263. On November 23 his body was buried in the cathedral church of the Monastery of the Nativity of the Saviour in Vladimir. At the burial a miracle took place: the saint himself stretched out his hand to receive the prayer of absolution. In 1380, before the Battle of Kulikovo, the incorrupt relics of the right-believing prince were miraculously revealed. On August 30, 1721, Peter I concluded peace with the Swedes after a long war. The translation of the incorrupt relics of Blessed Alexander from Vladimir to Saint Petersburg, to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, was linked to this day. It is precisely this event that we celebrate on August 30. The Church also commemorates Alexander Nevsky on November 23.
