✝ Venerable Cheremon of Egypt
August 16 / August 29 (Julian Calendar)
On this day, August 16 according to the Julian Calendar (August 29 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Venerable Cheremon of Egypt.
The Venerable Cheremon of Egypt labored in the desert of Scetis in Egypt. His name is remembered in the Lausiac History of Palladius and in the alphabetical Paterikon. The cave of the saint lay forty stadia distant from the church. The venerable father, having passed his hundredth year, reposed while at his handiwork, at the end of the fourth century or the beginning of the fifth. The Venerable Theodore the Studite (commemorated November 11) also mentions the blessed Cheremon in the readings for Cheesefare Saturday, in the sixth ode of the canon at matins.
May the intercessions of the Venerable Cheremon of Egypt be with us all.
