Venerable Bessarion of Palestine — August 11 / August 24 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, August 11 according to the Julian Calendar (August 24 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Venerable Bessarion of Palestine.

The venerable Bessarion pursued the ascetic life in the first half of the fifth century. He founded a monastery of fathers in Jerusalem and served as chorepiscopus of Palestine.

He was a close friend of Saint Euthymius the Great, whose memory the Church celebrates on January 20.
