Holy Martyr Anthony of Alexandria — August 9 / August 22 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, August 9 according to the Julian Calendar (August 22 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyr Anthony of Alexandria.

The Holy Martyr Anthony was born in the city of Alexandria. For confessing the true faith the blessed one was hung upon a tree and cruelly tortured, and afterwards he was condemned to be burned in the fire.

When the fire had burned down to ashes, the body of the martyr appeared entirely unharmed. The time of the blessed one’s repose is unknown.
