✝ Holy Martyr Antiochus the Physician of Sebastea
July 16 / July 29 (Julian Calendar)
On this day, July 16 according to the Julian Calendar (July 29 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Holy Martyr Antiochus the Physician of Sebastea.
The Holy Martyr Antiochus was a physician from Sebastea who had been converted to the Christian faith by his brother, Saint Plato (commemorated November 18).
When the pagans learned that Antiochus was a believer in the Crucified Lord, he was brought before the tribunal and subjected to terrible tortures. His tormentors cut off his hands, feet, and other members of his body, but could not break his spirit or his confession of faith in Christ.
Throughout his suffering, the Holy Martyr Antiochus prayed without ceasing and glorified God. He received the crown of martyrdom in Sebastea, and the Orthodox Church venerates him as a holy physician and faithful witness to the Gospel.
May the intercessions of Holy Martyr Antiochus the Physician of Sebastea be with us all.
