Holy Martyrs Paul, Aleftina, and Chione of Egypt — July 16 / July 29 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, July 16 according to the Julian Calendar (July 29 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Holy Martyrs Paul, Aleftina, and Chione of Egypt.

The Holy Martyrs Paul, Aleftina (Valentina), and Chione were Egyptians who suffered martyrdom around the year 308 during the persecution of Maximian.

The sisters Aleftina and Chione were devout Christians who ministered to the confessor Paul while he was imprisoned for his faith. When this was discovered by the authorities, all three were arrested.

They were brought before the governor and, refusing to deny Christ or offer sacrifice to the pagan idols, were condemned to death. They received the crown of martyrdom together, glorifying God by their blood.
