✦ · ✦

On this day, July 14 according to the Julian Calendar (July 27 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Venerable Elioz the Monk.

Venerable Elioz the Monk lived and labored in the fourth century. From his childhood he was entrusted to a monastery, where God-loving fathers raised him in piety and the fear of God.

When he reached maturity, the blessed Elioz set out for the desert of Egypt, where he devoted himself to unceasing ascetic labors. His life of prayer, fasting, and vigil attracted the attention of God and of men, and he became known as a great desert father.

Through divine grace Elioz received the gift of working miracles, healing the sick and helping those in need who came to him. He guided many souls on the path of repentance and holy living.

After many years of ascetic struggle in the Egyptian desert, the Venerable Elioz reposed in peace in the Lord, leaving behind a fragrant memory and the example of a life wholly consecrated to God.
