Holy Martyr Dimitri of Philadelphia (+1657) – June 2 / June 15 (Julian Calendar)

On this day, June 2 according to the Julian Calendar (June 15 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyr Dimitri of Philadelphia (+1657).

The Holy Martyr Dimitri was born in Philadelphia (Asia Minor) into a Christian family. In his early youth he was seized by the Turks and forced to convert to Islam. At the age of twenty-five he came to understand that he had turned his back on the true God. He resolved to sever all ties with the ungodly and publicly confessed Christ the Savior. For this the Turks cut him down. Washed clean of his sins by his own blood, the holy martyr surrendered his soul to the Lord in 1657.

May the intercessions of the Holy Martyr Dimitri be with us all.
