On this day, June 5 according to the Julian Calendar (June 18 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Venerable Theodore the Desert-Dweller (6th century).
The Venerable Theodore the Desert-Dweller lived in the sixth century. In his youth he left this world and withdrew into the desert of the Jordan. God bestowed upon the holy man the grace of wonder-working. On one occasion, while he was traveling by ship toward Constantinople, at the prayer of the Venerable Theodore, water drawn from the sea became fit to drink, and quenched the thirst of his fellow travelers. When the passengers began to express their gratitude toward the venerable father, Saint Theodore turned to them and said: “The Lord looked with merciful eyes upon people exhausted from lack of water, and therefore hearkened to my prayer.”
May the intercessions of the Venerable Theodore the Desert-Dweller be with us all.
