On this day, June 14 according to the Julian Calendar (June 27 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Venerable Niphon of Mount Athos, who reposed in the 14th century.
The Venerable Niphon was an ascetic of the Holy Mountain of Athos who devoted himself to the hesychast life of prayer and contemplation that flourished on Athos in the 14th century. He pursued the inner life of stillness and continuous prayer, following in the footsteps of the great Athonite fathers.
His life on the Holy Mountain was characterized by extreme asceticism, deep humility, and the practice of unceasing prayer. He is venerated as one of the holy fathers of Mount Athos who contributed to the rich spiritual tradition of that sacred place.
He reposed peacefully in the Lord in the 14th century.
May the intercessions of the Venerable Niphon of Mount Athos be with us all.
