On this day, June 18 according to the Julian Calendar (July 1 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Venerable Leontius of Mount Athos.
The Venerable Leontius of Mount Athos reposed in the year 1605. He was a holy monk who lived and labored on the Holy Mountain of Athos, dedicating himself to prayer, fasting, and the ascetic life.
Leontius is venerated as one of the New Martyrs and Confessors who suffered at the hands of those hostile to the Christian faith during the difficult centuries of Ottoman rule. His holy life and steadfast witness to Orthodoxy earned him a place among the saints venerated on the Holy Mountain.
The Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates him together with the other holy fathers of Athos who have shone forth in virtue and holiness.
May the intercessions of Venerable Leontius of Mount Athos be with us all.
