On this day, June 13 according to the Julian Calendar (June 26 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Triphyllius, Bishop of Leucosia (Nicosia) in Cyprus, who reposed around 370 AD.
Saint Triphyllius was a disciple of the great Saint Spyridon of Trimythous (commemorated December 12). He received his theological formation under Spyridon’s guidance and was deeply influenced by his holy teacher’s simple faith, wonder-working, and love for God.
Triphyllius was educated at Beirut, one of the great centers of Roman legal learning, and was known for his eloquence and learning. He was later ordained bishop of Leucosia (the ancient name of Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus). As bishop, he governed his diocese with wisdom and pastoral care, combining theological learning with genuine holiness of life.
He participated in church councils and was respected for his knowledge of Scripture and the Fathers. Saint Jerome mentions him among the distinguished ecclesiastical writers of his era. Triphyllius wrote a commentary on the Song of Songs, though this work has not survived.
He reposed peacefully around 370 AD, venerated by the people of Cyprus as a holy hierarch and a faithful disciple of the wonder-worker Spyridon.
May the intercessions of Saint Triphyllius, Bishop of Leucosia, be with us all.
