On this day, June 4 according to the Julian Calendar (June 17 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyr John, Abbot of Monagria (+761).
The Holy Martyr John, Abbot of Monagria, was drowned in the sea in the year 761, during the reign of the iconoclast Emperor Constantine Copronymus. He suffered martyrdom for his defense of the holy icons and the Orthodox faith.
