On this day, July 5 according to the Julian Calendar (July 18 civil calendar), the Georgian Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Martyr Anna, who suffered for Christ in the year 304.
The Holy Martyr Anna is identified by tradition with the Holy Virgin Martyr Agnes of Rome, whose life and feast are commemorated on January 21. Agnes was a young Roman noblewoman who, from childhood, had consecrated her virginity to Christ. When she refused marriage to the son of the Roman prefect, she was denounced as a Christian and subjected to various torments. She suffered martyrdom around the year 304, during the persecutions of Emperor Diocletian.
The Church venerates her as a model of virginal purity and courageous witness to the faith, who chose death over apostasy and faithlessness.
May the intercessions of the Holy Martyr Anna be with us all.
